1. Information We Collect
Snag has no account, no sign-in and no server of its own. Almost nothing about you reaches us, and this section is specific about the little that leaves your phone at all.
1.1 Data You Provide
- Links: The post links you paste or share into the App. A link is used to fetch the media behind it and is stored in your download history on your device. It is not sent to us.
- Clipboard: When auto-paste detection is on, the App reads your clipboard to see whether it holds a link it recognises. This happens on your device, nothing is transmitted, and it can be turned off in Settings.
- Preferences: Your theme, language and quality settings, stored on your device.
1.2 Data Collected Automatically
- By us: nothing. The App contains no analytics and no crash-reporting service. We do not collect device identifiers, usage statistics or download counts, and there is no server of ours for them to be sent to.
- Extraction statistics, kept on your device: The App counts how often each extraction method succeeds or fails, so a platform that breaks can be diagnosed on the phone it broke on. These are counts only — no links and no identifiers — they never leave the device, and you can clear them under Settings › Diagnostics.
- Requests to the platforms: To read a link and download the media behind it, the App connects directly from your phone to that platform and its content servers, exactly as a web browser would. Those companies see the request, including your IP address, and it is governed by their own privacy policies. None of it passes through us.
- Advertising identifier: The free version shows ads supplied by Google AdMob, which accesses your device's advertising ID to serve and measure them. You can reset or delete that identifier in Settings › Google › Ads, and the one-time purchase removes ads entirely.
1.3 Data We Do Not Collect
- Your name, email address or any account with us — there is none to create
- Credentials for any social platform. The App never signs in to one, and never asks you to
- What you download. The files, the links and the history stay on your device
- Location, contacts, or files the App did not itself create
2. How We Use Your Information
A link is used to find and fetch the media it points at. Your settings are used to render the App the way you asked for. That is the whole of it. There is no profiling, no advertising audience built from your activity, and nothing sold or shared — there is nothing held to sell.
3. Data Storage & Security
3.1 Everything Stays Local
Downloaded files are written to your Downloads folder, in a Snag subfolder, through Android's MediaStore. Your download history lives in a database on the device. Neither is transmitted anywhere. Uninstalling the App removes the history and the settings; files you already saved remain in your gallery.
3.2 No Cloud Backup
The App has no cloud sync and no account, so there is no copy of anything on a server to secure or to breach.
3.3 Security Measures
The record of whether you have purchased ad removal is held in Android's encrypted storage. All network requests use HTTPS. The App requests no storage permission: MediaStore needs none.
4. Third-Party Services
- Google AdMob serves the ads in the free version and may collect and use data for personalised advertising. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing processes the in-app purchase. Payment details are handled by Google and never reach us.
- RevenueCat validates that purchase, which is what lets you restore it on a new device. It receives the purchase receipt and an anonymous identifier it generates for the install — not your name, your email address, or anything about what you download. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
- The platforms themselves. Fetching a post means talking to TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, Threads, Pinterest or Twitch directly from your device, under their privacy policies.
5. Permissions
- Notifications — asked for once, so the App can show a progress notification while a download runs and tell you when it has finished. Refusing it does not stop downloads working.
- Foreground service — keeps a download alive while you are in another app. It runs only for the length of a transfer and stops itself the moment one ends.
- Storage — only on Android 9 and older, which had no MediaStore. Android 10 and later need no storage permission at all.
6. Your Rights & Choices
- Clear your history from within the App at any time.
- Turn off clipboard detection in Settings.
- Clear the extraction counters under Diagnostics.
- Remove ads with the one-time purchase, which ends AdMob's involvement.
- Delete everything by uninstalling. There is no server-side copy to request, correct or erase, because none was ever created.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Since we collect no personal information from anyone, there is nothing held about a child either.
8. Data Retention
Your history and settings stay on your device until you clear them or uninstall. We retain nothing, because we receive nothing.
9. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the revised version appears on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the App's release notes.
